Home to an incredible culture and breathtaking scenery, the Kingdom of Cambodia is a fantastic place to visit. If you’re considering visiting this beautiful country, then knowing the travel requirements is a must. Most visitors need a visa to enter the Kingdom; however, to promote the tourism industry, the government of Cambodia has made the process more accessible than ever with the possibility of getting an electronic visa (e-visa)
Most nationalities are eligible for obtaining this visa type. Afghanistan, Algeria, Arab Saudi, Bangladesh, Iran, Iraq, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Sudan and Nigeria are the only nations where citizens must apply for a visa at their respective Cambodian embassy. The process of applying for an e-visa is very simple; you can complete the application from any corner of the world with an internet connection and get your visa by email in less than a week.
When applying for an e-visa, you’ll only need to fill out the online application form, upload a recent passport-sized picture and pay the corresponding fee. Once you have completed the steps, you’ll receive an email with your visa only a few days later. On the other hand, you must have your travel itinerary ready before submitting your application, since one of the fields in the form requires you to specify the port of entry.
Cambodian e-Visas are valid for the same terms as any other tourist visa for the country, that is, 90 days from the date of approval. Additionally, the maximum stay allowed is 30 days, with a minimum stay of 24 hours. e-Visa holders can enter Cambodia through three international airports: Phnom Penh, Sihanoukville and Siem Reap; and four border crossings: Cham Yeam, Poi Pet, Bavet (Moc Bai) and Tropaeng Kreal (Stung Treng). The e-visa only allows a single-entry trip, so if you’re planning on entering Cambodia multiple times during your visit, then you must request another visa type.
You can apply for an e-visa up to 90 days before your departure to Cambodia. Consider that if you apply any time before that, your visa application will simply not be processed. Once you receive the email with the visa, you must print two copies, since you must present a copy upon entering the country and another one upon exiting.
There’s also the option of obtaining a visa on arrival upon entering Cambodia. Citizens of eligible countries can acquire a Cambodian visa, also valid for one month, at Phnom Penh and Siem Reap international airports and border crossings. However, getting a visa on arrival can mean having to wait in line for longer at the airport or border crossing, since this process usually takes longer.
